\r\nWhat you need to know about AWS Cloud Watch:-<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

AWS<\/a> Cloud Watch is a monitoring tool offered by Amazon primarily to monitor other services like EC2, S3, RDS, etc. To work with Cloud Watch we first have to create instances using EC2.<\/p>\r\n

The following ways are how you can monitor EC2 instances using Cloud Watch:-<\/p>\r\n

(1) Check status of instance<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Go to\u00a0-><\/strong>\u00a0AWS dashboard\u00a0-><\/strong>\u00a0EC2\u00a0-><\/strong>\u00a0select any instance\u00a0-><\/strong>\u00a0click on monitoring (it will show you various aspects of that particular instance). It\u2019s a basic monitoring we can see the monitoring metrics for every 5 minutes.<\/p>\r\n

Cloud Watch monitor has several metrics like the one shown below:-<\/p>\r\n\r\n[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image _builder_version=”3.17.6″ src=”https:\/\/asha24.net\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/download-69.png” align=”center” max_width=”80%” module_alignment=”center” \/][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.12.2″ text_font=”Titillium Web|300|||||||” text_font_size=”20″ text_font_size_last_edited=”on|desktop” text_text_color=”rgba(0,0,0,0.8)” text_line_height=”1.6em” max_width=”800px” custom_margin=”|||10%”]\r\n\r\n

\r\n(2)\u00a0<\/strong>View detail monitoring<\/p>\r\n

Go to\u00a0-><\/strong>\u00a0AWS dashboard\u00a0-><\/strong>\u00a0EC2\u00a0-><\/strong>\u00a0select any instance\u00a0-><\/strong>\u00a0detail monitoring.<\/p>\r\n

We have to enable this detailed monitoring manually.<\/p>\r\n

This is a chargeable service, unlike other free AWS services<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n

It will monitor the metrics every 1 minute. The only difference between monitoring and detail monitoring is that the former works every 5 minutes and the latter every 1 minute.<\/p>\r\n

Cloud Watch Console:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Cloud watch<\/a> console provides several metrics, such as EBS, EC2, EFS, RDS, and S3. I have specified some for you in the picture below:<\/p>\r\n

(1) Metrics:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image _builder_version=”3.17.6″ src=”https:\/\/asha24.net\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/download-70.png” align=”center” \/][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.12.2″ text_font=”Titillium Web|300|||||||” text_font_size=”20″ text_font_size_last_edited=”on|desktop” text_text_color=”rgba(0,0,0,0.8)” text_line_height=”1.6em” max_width=”800px” custom_margin=”|||10%” text_text_shadow_vertical_length=”0.08em”]\r\n\r\n

\r\nAfter selecting a particular metric we check the data and copy the URL link.<\/p>\r\n

We can also get the data based on time period is I\u2019ve shown in the picture below:<\/p>\r\n\r\n[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image _builder_version=”3.17.6″ src=”https:\/\/asha24.net\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/download-71.png” align=”center” \/][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.12.2″ text_font=”Titillium Web|300|||||||” text_font_size=”20″ text_font_size_last_edited=”on|desktop” text_text_color=”rgba(0,0,0,0.8)” text_line_height=”1.6em” max_width=”800px” custom_margin=”|||10%”]\r\n\r\n

\r\nAfter selecting the metrics, you can set two types of alerts<\/p>\r\n

2) Alarm:<\/strong>\u00a0An alarm is set in before exceeding the threshold.<\/p>\r\n

Alarm\u00a0-><\/strong>\u00a0Create Alarm\u00a0-><\/strong>\u00a0Select Metrics\u00a0-><\/strong>\u00a0Select specific part\u00a0-><\/strong>\u00a0Give Stranded name<\/p>\r\n

The two types of action involved here are:-<\/p>\r\n

a)\u00a0<\/strong>Mail generated action<\/p>\r\n

b)\u00a0<\/strong>Terminate the particular instance when it reaches the time limit<\/p>\r\n

c)\u00a0<\/strong>Set billing Alerts:<\/p>\r\n

Go to My account session\u00a0-><\/strong>\u00a0Preferences\u00a0-><\/strong>\u00a0Enable Receiving billing alerts<\/p>\r\n\r\n[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image _builder_version=”3.17.6″ src=”https:\/\/asha24.net\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/download-72.png” align=”center” max_width=”81%” module_alignment=”center” \/][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.12.2″ text_font=”Titillium Web|300|||||||” text_font_size=”20″ text_font_size_last_edited=”on|desktop” text_text_color=”rgba(0,0,0,0.8)” text_line_height=”1.6em” max_width=”800px” custom_margin=”|||10%”]\r\n\r\n

\r\nWe will be able to get the billing alerts at alarm dashboard once we select the metric. You just have to create the alarm threshold with name, description and action.<\/p>\r\n

In area description, you have to mention the threshold limit (for e.g. if billing is more than 5$).<\/p>\r\n

Under \u201cwhenever: Cass Server Count\u201d give value (e.g. 5$, same as threshold limit)<\/p>\r\n

Actions:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

(1)\u00a0<\/strong>Under \u201cWhenever this Alarm\u201d select \u201cState is alarm\u201d<\/p>\r\n

(2)\u00a0<\/strong>Under\u00a0 \u201dSend notification to\u201d select \u201cNotify Me\u201d<\/p>\r\n

(3)\u00a0<\/strong>Under \u201cEmail List\u201d give your Mail Id.<\/p>\r\n

Whenever threshold limit is reached (e.g. beyond 5$) you will be notified via email you configured.<\/p>\r\n
